https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/this-beloved-confederate-general-was-one-of-the-worst-military-leaders-in-history/ar-AAUDZ5k?ocid=msedgntpWhen the Infantry/Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (IFV/CFV) was about to enter the initial production phase, the name "search" was narrowed to two--the Forrest or the Bradley. One of the stronger arguments against the former was the notion that the old saw about not being able "to see the Forrest for the trees" would be too easy a put down. Of course, this was a time when NBF was generally accepted as an unschooled military genius and exemplar of battlefield heroism...was known (reported?) to have bragged later in life that he had 21 horses shot out from under him while having personally killed 22 Yankee soldiers therefore finishing the war "a horse ahead." The honor going to Bradley was influenced also by the General's passing earlier that year.
This article puts a much different light on the exploits of Forrest and further suggests we got it right in '81.
In any event, it is an interesting read for those of you interested in military history.
