My family live in Cuba – the people may be poor, but Fidel Castro's legacy will live on

Fidel Castro may be dead, but his revolutionary ideals live on. When he liberated Cuba in 1959, the island was an oligarchical society where the rich lived in lavish luxury, while the majority of the population toiled and struggled with disease and starvation.

Now, after 60 years of socialism, Cuba is a shining example of success. There is electricity and ample food for all. The literacy rate is 100 percent. Homelessness is almost nonexistent.

And the socialized healthcare in Cuba is among the best in the entire world. The life expectancy in Cuba is higher than in the USA. Cuba has sent more doctors overseas on aid missions than the UN or the USA. And lets not forget when Cuban doctors developed a vaccine for lung cancer, which is available to every citizen for one peso.

Sure, Cuba still has issues with poverty. But most of that is attributable to the half century of US embargo and blockade. And the fact that Cuba has managed to develop the hemisphere's finest health care system, highest literacy rate, and almost eliminate hunger an homelessness, while being under constant attack from the USA, shows why the majority of the world, including Canada, Ireland, India, Mexico, the EU, and so many other countries respect Castro as a hero and revolutionary champion. Compare the respect, honor, and dignity shown by the majority of the world's great leaders, and compare that to the disrespectfully emotionless statement from President Obama, and the absolutely tactless, slanderous, hateful comments from Donald Trump.
