Since the Space Shuttle was retired in 2011, NASA has been relying on Russia to carry American astronauts aboard its Soyuz capsule to the space station. The Associated Press says the U.S. has paid Moscow up to $82 million a seat for the ride into orbit. The GAO notes that the contract with Russia is set to end in late 2019.

Either they're going to have to renew the contract, our come up with their own way to get people back up there.

Gee whiz, gosh ohmighty, lemme put in my thinking cap here boys and girls, ya know? How about not spending a zillion dollars on useless ways to blow up humanity, and building a whole fleet of nuclear thermal rockets, and building an actual space station a LA Arthur C Clarke, straight out of 2001 A Space Odyssey, and actually getting the entire human race to stop trying to constantly worry about blowing itself up for a change? How's that for starters? Golly gee, George Jetson, ya rhnk the human race might finally find something more exciting to do than constant, totally useless, I ternecine warfare for a change? Ya think?
