Go through this see what projects you think might be suitable for his age in mindset, after all it's not the biology that matters in this LOL. So I would say scope it out for him and then involve him in the programs that you believe he can viably contribute to and let him go for it. Once he turns at least 16, then he can begin to participate through freelancer in higher and programs such as development of a robotic arm the autonomous robots designing exercise systems for the new SpaceX program or working on hero X through Harvard

LTC (Join to see) quite a few in all fields of study and research as well as technical Hands-On assistance in terms of new programming Etc. And don't forget for those of you that are currently enlisted and unable to take advantage of these opportunities you can still get involved independently with NASA projects through tournament labs
