Thank you my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell for sharing the music video of Nashville Jam performing Merle Haggard's "Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down'" at Music City Roots Live From the Factory on 4.05.2017.

"The Bottle Let Me Down" written by Merle Haggard
Lyrics
"Each night I leave the bar room when it's over
Not feeling any pain at closing time
But tonight your memory found me much too sober
Couldn't drink enough to keep you off my mind

Tonight the bottle let me down
And let your memory come around
The one true friend I thought I'd found
Tonight the bottle let me down

I've always had a bottle I could turn to
And lately I've been turnin' every day
But the wine don't take effect the way it used to
And I'm hurtin' in old familiar ways

Tonight the bottle let me down
and let your memory come around
The one true friend I thought I'd found
Tonight the bottle let me down

Tonight the bottle let me down"

A long while back when I was employed with the County at Food Service DEPT at County corrections, I was also heavily involved in the Veteran’s org I belong to and there quite a bit..
I was Post Sr. Vice Cmdr and had Side appointed positionsto hold up.
Some of the Deputies that served as unit officers, Were members of my Org. They stayed a year and then transferred to other Posts.. So I surmised the solidarity wasn’t there when one of them gave up the Post’s phone number so the job could call and say they needed me to cover that night or other nights..
it seems all the times they called and found me there, they seeemed to ass/u/me- that ihad a booze problem.. yes I did imbibe, but not when i’m Getting stuff done because I might have to go s’where
To get s’thing to complete a project.. One day I get a letter that to keep my job Ihad to go to A.A. And if further treatment needed,a rehab.. Well people and A.A. Surmise that denial is the first station... So I shut my trap and put on my armor and told. Them I would go, but do it via the VA. No cost to them(or me). I’m service-connected.. and I seen my primary-care provider.. we talked.. they set me up with Mental-Health.. M.H. Seemed to reach a conclusion because of my being at the “V” a lot (again, the ass/u/me word). That my additional positions were a good cover(seriously? I showed them the letter the V.F.W. Gave me, I had endorsements up and down the Chain-of-Command, nice cover Mr. Herrst.. So I went through the program.. I did actually get on the wagon, but they wanted me to actually “quit” the organization. Put it behind me.. I had so much going.. too busy to think about other trivial and minute personal goings on.. well they quit bugging me about quitting.. I got assigned a “minder”.. A fellow Vet and member and Officer in the “V”.... ((they didn’t know the Fellow Officer part).
He was in it for the same reason(the job thought he had a booze prob because of being found at the the V so much. ). My job thought the VA was covering too much.. the job wanted me to drive
To a place way over in Auburn Hills.
As many times a week as needed.
They were paying.. my part was going and paying the gas to get there.. no thanks that’s why said i’d Do it through the VA. Besides since “they” concluded I needed the program I was authorized travel
pay.. it wasn’t great but it helped out.. the Job didn’t know about the Travel pay from the VA.. they didn’t ask.. So they figured not from my home but from work.. and not to the nearest facility (Allen Park, MI VAMC) but to mine in Ann Arbor where I transferred to because Allen Park was closing. I was moving it that way and would seek a job with Washtenaw County)..
From my job in Detroit to Ann Arbor, MI., It added up pretty good.. VA reimbursed from my home to Ann Arbor.. The question of double -dipping didn’t come up... from either agency.. one was from a federal agency and the other from a county agency.. now-a-day it is asked when submitting for travel..
(Even from a private employer).
It wasn’t offered for driving to Auburn Hills was because the county was paying for the treatment.. big time ! The travel on their part was a tiny minute cost..
Then I didn’t see it as fraud because the county and Fed was two separate agency’s not even connected.. it’s like a Military member that retires and then goes to work for his state or local agency.. he or she are not asked to freeze their retirement because they’re separate agencies.. I still don’t see any connection.
