I can't figure out why she wasn't presented with the option to accept separation and an honorable discharge due to,pregnancy/parenthood. Much easier for her command to dispose of this that way than to go through the cheetah flips of this. First google hit was for the Navy Milper message on pregnancy chapters. In the Army it is a chapter 8 separation. Tricare covers the birth even if they separate under this chapter.

I have seen it where a soldier went home to give birth, every intention of coming back, but sees their child and just can't. Fine we have a chapter for that.

Sgt Wayne Wood - you can't. Don't know from what was published whether it was stupid from her, her command, or the advice she got from Navy veteran Dad. Just struck me as avoidable.

Sgt Wayne Wood - she will be either prosecuted for deserting or bypass all that And separated for desertion. It just frustrates me because the uninitiated public thinks this is something the service leadership sits up late at night, scheming on how to stick it to a poor defenseless lactating mother of an infant, when this is largely self inflicted by her. If she is suffering from some post partum issue, a visit to a doctor before she was dropped from the rolls could have helped head this off. The length of time she was gone indicates that it was a deliberate choice.

As you probably know, as soon as you are AWOL, there is a warrant issued for your arrest. It is boiler plate. Once you go AWOL, your next interaction with Law Enforcement will put you on the UCMJ bullet train back to your unit to face the music.

I think her work history and character will play a major part in that, as well as her motivation for being AWOL. Let's also remember that postpartum depression and psychosis are real and common.
