.... So here is the thing the Online training is boring impersonal and repetitive.. Quite frankly after the 10 year mark you have heard it all at least 20 times and just tune out. That's the same for EVERY GMT!!! The issue with this "surprise" no more GMT online is who is going to do the training? We all have collaterals but not all of us are good at instructing. How do you make sure ALL of the information is passed on and there are no "I wasn't told / taught that at GMT" loop holes.

While I hate the online ones they did fill a requirement and took the burden off the command, You are going to lose working man hours while those people try and create a command tailored GMT training.

Bonus Points I bet its still death by Power Point!!!

I have been out for a long time but reading what GMT is all about was never a factor when I was aboard. "Suicide Awareness, Equal Opportunity and Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response training" Well Suicide Awareness was usually brought out in Boot Camp when the wimps were found under the sinks trying to cut their wrists with the "Track II" that we were issued. Our CC walked in pulled out his blade opened it dropped it in his lap and told him to "cut vertically that way they cannot stop the bleeding." Our CC was so cool! Equal Opportunity was also in Boot Camp. My Company had people from Fiji, the Philippines, and all over the States and Texas. We got along famously. No problem there. and since this was San Diego we did not have to worry about Women being in the Brigade or the Fleet for a while. By the time they arrived Most of us had been shipped out, but even an idiot knows you don't carry on affairs in the same Company that yu work. (Or the same ship) Seeing the level of SOME of the officers and enlisted we have in the fleet that float to the top (and yes I did use that metaphor for a reason) I have to wonder what type of person we are bringing into the Service these days. And they are putting these people in front of a Computer to learn Basic Military Training?? No wonder they are slipping through the cracks The Instructors are there to over see them and pick out the derelicts and report them to get them out of the NAVY. It's as bad as the Supervisors of Major Nidal Hassan not reporting his extreme behavior and unAmerican speech, until he finally wipes out the soldiers at Fort Hood. There was enough blame there to paint the inner ring of the Pentagon. Screw Computers. Training needs to go back to face to face where feedback can be monitored. A Doctor might be able to look at a picture of the Body on a Computer and learn how many bones and muscles are supposed to be there but until he cuts into the flesh and feels that resistance to the scalpel that the flesh makes and feels the warmth that slaps him or her in the face that comes from the body's interior when it is opened, they will never understand the majesty of GOD's creation. Computers are NOT the panacea that some people think they are.

As an IT im offended by that last statement.... (im joking of course ) Computers have made everyone stupid. As an IT I have come to hate the users, standard phrases I use "Here let me google that for you" and "you need to change your drool cup its full"

Computers when properly used have their purpose, The online GMTs while not being the greatest they did fee up people to concentrate on the actual mission. When you were in they had less regs and less 'issues" There are now about 17 GMT that must be done each Oct. So having people do them online is more effective than stopping all activity's for a day and doing them as a while command. You also must take into account the people who must prepare and present the material, and if its standard death by power point its not going to be any more effective.
