This was by far the best training I ever received. When I went to it, you could run any scenario you could possibly imagine on the ship you were going to, and there was over 100 years of ship driving experience between former CO's and civilian masters watching over your shoulder. There should be a couple of these set up at each Navy port, and SWO's have to spend some sim time while they are in port...

LT Brad McInnis Don't call those pier side units simulators, call them At sea war games or "USNXboxes", and the new Generation of SWO's will be tripping over each other to see who can do it better and who can get the highest score!! And I bet you would have to peel them off the consoles to get underway!

Nothing like using more recent incidents to train pilots and navigators.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I can imagine this simulation will speak louder and have a more lasting impact than an instructor can ever have and I am sure it will better catch the attention of the new SWO students...that is for sure!!

CWO3 Dennis M. Hopefully there are some Extra Distractions on the Bridge for Affect. Put the Fear of God in those New Ship Drivers!

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I think that is an excellent suggestion to add to the simulation! From what I have read, there was a lot of confusion on that bridge, so what they need is to get four or five CPO's around that simulator and have them start telling sea stories and drinking coffee. Then have an Ensign tell the chief's that they need to shut up and are not allowed on the bridge simulator with a cup of coffee! Stand by for heavy rolls as we come about!
