It maybe more convenient for the well-woman exams to be included on the ship. Cinics on/around base are always busy and it's always difficult to schedule if you are attached to a ship.

That is an outstanding idea that should merit command attention.

MAJ Rene De La Rosa - Sir, with the idea of having a more diverse "jobs", it may help with some medical based NOSs to get involved with this, extending health options for males and females to be checked for STIs, pap-smears for females and prostate exams for males. I can understand if a few may feel it's a bit awkward, but honestly I would rather have a clean bill of health than be freaked that a Chief, LT, or CDR was starting at my naked body.

PO1 (Join to see) According to the article, all ships are already equipped for this and IDCs receive training in this.

Integrating women on ships definitely changed the medical focus in some ways. Men and women have several different medical concerns (though many of the same). Ensuring that our ships are equip to deal with gender specific medical issues - as well as general and emergency medical issues, is of a great concern to the Navy. Our men and women are in good hands. The USNS Mercy is out there somewhere. ;) Best floating hospital in the world.
