Some days, I think there's some huge, diplomatic process we're all blind to that's at play here...other days, I think we've just gone soft and squishy. Iran likes feeling important and they have significant enough means to be a threat...if they really wanted to go that far.

What I'd love to know, is whether or not COs operating in these waters have been given strict orders to avoid a confrontation at all costs...or have been warned that anything short of a direct action must be ignored. I won't say when, where or who...but I will report that during my last years of service, I did hear a senior officer order that in the event of engagement with the enemy, we were to make every effort to avoid trading rounds and creating an "incident". Where I was and who I was with made that all the more surprising and uncomfortable.

With 23 minutes warning via marine band radio I'm surprised the CO did not suddenly launch some fast movers for an impromptu 'training exercise'...you know, to keep our pilots' skills and ammo squids razor sharp...just sayin'...

I think the "big secret" with both of these recent incidents has to do with orders from above for what "not to do".

Im betting this CO's career is over. They never should have gotten this close. Wonder if they went to GQ
