PO2 Robert Nichols It doesn't matter what they think. So much has been sunk into the development of the F-35 that the Navy is going to have it foisted upon them just like everyone else is. Besides, the Navy currently has a total of 18 F-35Cs in active with another 236 on order. They MIGHT bring the Tomcat back as a stop gap until the F-35Cs are delivered, but they are not going to replace the F-35 Money Pit with the F-14.
The last line is sad, because the Tomcat was a great plane. And just looked badass. Tom Cruise breaking all the rules set for by anyone above him and not facing any consequences for his actions didn't hurt that image. Sade that they are now covered in Latex and wasting away in the Arizona Desert.

If you read all of the article, you will see that this is tongue in cheek. It was written on March 31st and ends with April fools

PO2 Robert Nichols - There were signs like referring to REDDIT as the most trusted source for military technology analysis for example. Well done satire. I always say the best satire is the stuff that needs two readings to make sure it is satire.

That'd be quite a trick since they've all been destroyed in order to keep Iran from getting parts for the few they have left.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - of course the part about going to Wal Martin for metal was a clue also.

Plus the author is wrong about the F-35C it is well along on its development and deployment. It has already successfully launched and recovered from a carrier.

No I think the will move forward with the new F-18 before they waste money on an old air-frame.
