This is a global handed down by Mattis earlier this year. Should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Sailors go to sea... I had a couple of sailors that fought going to sea with everything they had, we never received replacements for them. That means we were always short a sailor... if you didn't like the sea, should have joined the AF.

i never understood joining the military if you didn't want to deploy. Yes, you are serving your country, but only half assedly.

LCpl Shane Couch - When I was in, many of the non-deployable were in it for a steady paycheck and medical.

LCpl Shane Couch - Yep, but they were vastly overweighed by the ones that deployed and were in it for the right reasons.

Seems reasonable for most areas. For most jobs, if they can't deploy, then they are not useful for their primary purpose in defense.

However there may be some jobs in the broader military, like cyber warfare, where the benefits of deployment are low due to being able to do their work anywhere and the benefits of smart trained people in an area like that are way more valuable.

SPC Kevin Ford I would say that if you are in the Navy, you should at least do one deployment at the beginning, just so you have an idea of what life is like out there... my 2 cents.
