For a country that teaches kindergarteners that the MUST color inside the lines etc, I am sure that the Germans were incensed over this. The RULES specify that this MUST NOT be sung...

The German Anthem is today, the same as it was then. They just don't sing the 1st three verses.

It's easy to see how this would happen, the first verse of the German national Anthem is the one which was banned. Who would know that you start on the second verse?
