Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on July 18, 64 AD the great fire of Rome brokeout and destroys much of the city on this day in the year 64. Despite the well-known stories, there is no evidence that the Roman emperor, Nero, either started the fire or played the fiddle while it burned. Still, he did use the disaster to further his political agenda. He tended to heap blame on the Christians which started another persecution.

Use the disaster as the pretence for the persecution of the catholics. Blame the minorities, common rallying tactics throughout time.
