When you are living paycheck to paycheck, there is nothing left to save.

When I got married 1963 as an E-5, I was making $222 per month, as I recall. The first thing we did was to accumulate $300 for emergencies. After that anything other that went into savings. All we had was a little cheap Chevy II, for a few years. It seems now, everybody wants everything now.

Heck the cell phone everyone has to have today probably costs more than that Chevy did back then.
