I would have to disagree with the merge. The Commissary is a non profit organization (that I currently work for). Our main goal is the customer. AAFES works for profit. Outside of veterans that Work for the Commissaries, the employees would be making less money. Veterans like myself can’t afford that. I understand from a higher up point of view how much sense this would make for them, but for the little guys like me, it would hurt. And I’m unsure of how customers would be treated when they shop at a grocery store that works for profit, unlike us.

I understand the case for merging the "grocery store" with the "department store," but see lots of hurdles to be overcome. First off is money. AAFES/NEX are non-appropriated funds activities while the Commissary (DECA) is an appropriated funds Agency. I think the grocery store in CONUS could go over to the non-appropriated side.
