Neither tuition assistance nor virtual education are new SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
To be it is sad that the US Navy has closed all its brick and mortar all but four of its Navy College offices on bases around the United States and the remaining four will be gone by Oct. 1, 2017 and sailors must rely on remote education counseling and the buddy system.
1. It seems strange but now COs can waive the first-year-exclusion requirement for tuition assisted classes for sailors they feel are ready.
2. When somebody is interested in higher education but not sure about which degree to pursue having a a counselor present with them can be very beneficial.
3. I would have thought that the local Navy College office would be a great place to send textbooks for sailors who were deployed to pickup when they returned and to buy-back or store textbooks once the sailors have completed the classes.
4. Navy authorization for spending on education has been reduced in the budget from an actual $88,763,000 in Fy2016 to a 2017 budgeted $85,706,000.
