"They" always think computer-based learning is so great, but it's complete garbage. Real schools are needed.

I think the Navy might be making a big error going in the direction. My initial enlistment was for the advanced Electronic Technician program. It required a 6 year enlistment contract. The main reason for such a long contract was that I was going to have 2 solid years of training at an ET. The first part of my Navy experience was 16 weeks of Boot Camp at Great Lakes followed by 4 weeks of BE&E (Basic Electricity and Electronics) school. ET "A" school was in 4 consecutive phases of advanced Electronics schooling. This was followed by 8 weeks of ET "C" school where we received specialized training on a unique ship board system... in my case it was a Cyptographic Equipment repair class. Very close to 2 years of intensive training. And after all this training I still had a four year obligation to serve. The extensive schooling was not all classroom, we were put into duty sections, we stood various watches such a Q-Deck watches, Barracks watches, security watches, Equipment room watches, he held field days where we cleaned and spit shined the Schools and Barracks. We stood personnel inspections, and we marched to school and marched back to the barracks. We were well rounded sailors with a lot of military bearing pounded into us by the time we hit the fleet! With what I just read in this article gives me some insight as to why our fleet might be floundering in the present day Navy. Am I wrong it what the report said about the recent collisions in that training was severely lacking, yet they want to cut it down even more??? In my opinion, a BIG error.
