What a deal. $800,000 for one round. Not the fault of the Navy. The number of these ships was decreased down to three, and the cost of the ammo sent up. If this ammo can be bought at a satisfactory cost, these guns would pay for them self by saving lives when they are used.

What happened was there were 12 ships built and the ammo was cheaper because of 12 ships. Nine were cut and the ammo was higher because the overall volume was decreased to three ships. Sounds more like a Charlie Foxtrot to me.
