Not a proud moment for US illustrates how paranoia can infect even a free nation. It is no wonder in retrospect how the Germans could easily expand it to a heinous government genocide-extermination. How far was the US from going down this route no one really knows.

I hadn't heard of this incident before, thanks for posting it. I'm not defending the paranoia but understand how this may well have thrown fuel onto that fire. Seizure of private property like that of a people many of whom were US citizens that had never committed any crime can't be defended. That was a clear Violation of a basic constitutional right. The very existence and use of those camps was so wrong. When You consider the outstanding war record of Japanese Americans from Hawaii who served in the European theater of Operations in WII as one of the most highly decorated American units ever including a number of those receiving the Medal of Honor they proved beyond any doubt their loyalty to the United States.
