I do my best to conduct concurrent training. Next month we're going to conduct our required briefs while we ride the bus to our training area. I also do my best to incorporate AWTs into our current training. Its definitely a struggle, especially in the Reserve Component where my "white space" is often devoured by BN requirements.

Excellent! These are great suggestions to overcome some of the challenges. You are so right, it's those competing priorities and competing requirements that really prevent a linear concept of training/priorities. Do you think the intent behind the training can be lost when issues like this come up?

So true... Especially in the reserve component. Requirements become simple "check the block" exercises, and numbs people to actually focusing on what's important. As a peer recently called it, it creates a culture of "coping mechanisms" rather than engagement.

"A culture of coping mechanisms"- wow, that is def a good descriptor, and it's so unfortunate when the big push is "leader engagement". How do you think this is affecting the development of our future leaders?

The sad thing this type of pressure will put Command teams in a real dilemma. Do you take a beating from your command when training requirements are not met because you are overwhelmed at the company level or do you focus on the key tasks and ignore the non essential items. Any command team can get beat up only so much by a BN or higher commander, this creates an enormous pressure to "pencil whip" the training of many tasks.
