I just can't believe they left home without their M-whatevers. Somewhere close by is an armed guard standing watch over a firearms teepee

This is ridiculous that would be unarmed at the boarder, anywhere for that matter in this day and age. Great share @SGT Rick Whitmire

As I understand it, if your normal duties require the carrying of a firearm, it is approved (eg, MP). They are purely there for defense.
