I agree with those as the most basic explanations of the three graduated military options. There is room for disagreement on some of the author's tactical assertions regarding air and naval forces. But, this claim, "Any attempt to actually invade North Korea would require months of visible US military build-up, full-scale South Korean participation and a way to guarantee the neutralisation of North Korea's mysterious nuclear capabilities." is mostly false. South Korea is trained, ready, and quite capable of invading the North without months of visible US buildup. And if provoked sufficiently, it would do so, without a guarantee of neutralization of nukes (there is NEVER a guarantee in war, and the South knows it). The last line, "It would also cost hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides." is true. That is what's stopping us. Not any fear we wouldn't win.

Not much scares me more than the though of an insane individual with his thumb on a nuclear trigger.

A few points come to mind. First I believe NK is simply a tool for China. You may believe NK is a lone wolf acting on his own psychopathic means, but understand his age, time in power. Impressionable is probably a word most would not assert, but I believe this whole isolationist idea that NK has, has been calculated by China long before Little Kim came into power. China knows we are stretched thin in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are also controlling our attention in the South China Seas. Are people really not putting this all together. China says their islands are for maritime security, but yet they are building military flight lines and submarine installations on these islands while we are being distracted by NK. Then China says that if we strike first, there will be Hell to pay. Now we have Russia. They don't give a damn about the South China Seas, they just want to reclaim what they had during the Cold War and if possible as much of Europe as possible. And that so called communistic thread between China and Russia, is just that a thread. While their ideology are similar how they view their place in the would is completely different. China's focus is on diminishing the United States from its current standing to something that of a third world nation. With global power split between Russia and China. And what of the Middle East, they will be used as a pon until they have depleted their military resources and be made a distant memory. If you want to stop NK, China & Russia needs to be eliminated and NK in the jet wash. Side note to South Korea. SK should have built their capitol further south near its sea ports. They have made themselves venerable.
