Provocations like this are more common in other places across the DMZ, rarely in the JSA. As a medic we patrolled right along and maybe a step or two across the MDL in sight of the NK watch towers, the NKs did the same, it was a mind game. Things are much more serious inside the JSA though. May more “experienced” veterans can confirm this, but until the Ax Murders in 1976, I think inside the JSA there was no boundary both sides could move freely. After the ONLY apology by NK the concrete curb was poured to mark the boundary.
