So what's your point? If the illegal immigrant was never on the street in the first place, the young woman would still be alive? Sure. But consider this, if there was no loaded gun on the street to be found by someone walking by, then the young woman would still be alive. How many ways this tragedy can be spun. It's indeed a tragedy and it involved an undocumented immigrant, but it also involved a loaded gun abandoned on the street by someone. Involuntary manslaughter should've been a given; not murder. Would like to know if they ever tracked down the owner of the gun since it didn't belong to a homeless guy.

The bottom line is the young woman is dead, if that had been murder or manslaughter that immigrant still caused Her death. A common excuse for people that get caught with items they had no right to find is, "I found it " More often than not that isn't true. Was His claim true in this case ?, the presumption is yes unless there is evidence to the contrary which it appears there wasn't. Once He picked it up and the weapon discharged by intent or accident a death did occur. He should not have escaped without at least some level of responsibility if not by intent then at least being careless with a firearm. Juries don't always make the right decisions and this seems to support that statement. All to often the victim is the one that is forgotten.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - Yes the bottomline is a tragedy occurred and a young woman is dead. Too bad propagandist media and certain politicians made this all about illegal immigrants and border security. Had it been a homeless vet and not a homeless undocumented immigrant that found the gun, accidentally fired it, and killed the young woman would we be condemning all veterans? Juries don't always get it right and it comes down to the charges the prosecution is seeking. I said that in regards to the Trayvon Martin case, the Bundy Militia occupation of Malheur federal buildings case, and now this case. Yeah a lot of people tend to run out of fear of consequences regardless citizenship status. Just look at all the hit and runs that happen in this country. All we can do is catch them and do our best to hold them accountable.

MAJ James Woods - For sure, in a trial the issue at hand is the act and to what degree the accused was responsible if they in fact were. Whoever caused the death of another accidental or on purpose should be the main factor and You are correct many do run for fear of the consequences be they criminal, civil or both.
