I am fascinated by how animals and people can bond. When I was around 10 I read a story about a boy who was hurt by a horse and developed a deep fear of horses. The community the family lived in in the western United States was very horse oriented. The father heard about an old American Indian who was “ Horse wise”. The father asked the Native American to pick a horse to help his son. A few days later the Native American called and said he had found the horse. The father expected a docile creature. The selected horse was anything but docile. The horse feared humans. Well the son and horse stayed away from each other until the horse got tangled up in some wire. The boy was the only one around and he had to overcome his fear to help the horse. The horse had to set aside his fear to be cut loose. The horse and boy bonded and recovered with each other. This story reminds me of the story that hooked on my fascination with human animal interactions.
