The title is misleading, he expresses support for holding election day on weekends or pre-existing holidays in order to give voters more time to vote.
Personally, I don't think that would do much to increase voter turnout. I think low voter turnout has more to do with dissatisfaction with the entire political system as well as the current voting system (eg, the electoral college). I think voters have to believe their vote matters and that the candidates are really serving them.

Obama does not need to make Election Day a National Holiday...The majority of Obama supporters can go to rallies, vote and pass out literature all the while NEVER missing a minutes work. In order to need a day off you first have to work, and ... well you get the picture

PFC Al Sethre - It should be law that IF you are on Welfare you can not vote and that you can not go back on Welfare for 6 months after you vote. the biggie should also be that IF you do not pay taxes, OR if you get back more in taxes than you paid in to begin with, you do not vote.
the reason for this feeling is that if you have no skin in the game, you pay nothing in you should not have a sway in how other people's money is spent, nor should you be able to vote in politicians that bought your vote with a welfare check.

PFC Al Sethre - Not by the Original Constitution. The Founding Fathers, especially Jefferson believed that once the people found that they could vote themselves a paycheck from the government that the Republic is doomed

Since the number of Federal holidays is limited by law which Holiday do you think POTUS Obama would go after SGT Christopher Churilla?
Election Day is established in Federal law and can not be changed by Presidential fiat.
Veterans Day seems like a likely target for him since it falls in the same month.
In Virginia we have elections every November at the State and or national level.
