1LT Sandy Annala - Ma'am, everyone knows that America is listening to them, all the time. This is not a secret and it is not an IC issue. The American Government now collects on everyone around the globe and world leaders know this and it should not be a surprise. The release of the information to the press for a secondary reason should be the issue. But, when the Director of the FBI leaks to the press in order to secure a Special Prosecutor everyone just whistles on by.

LTC (Join to see) - That's not the point - the point is there is a direct nexus between this disclosure and the probability of survival of the source of the information. Appointment of a special prosecutor is an inconvenience - the death of a high level asset in place working on behalf of our country is far more serious than an inconvenience. Sandy :)

Punish the WP. Find the leaker of classified information amd throw their ass in jail. People who jepordize national security for political reasons are scum!

MSgt (Join to see) - Not just national security. HUMINT leaks fall into that special brand of "You put people's lives in danger" category. I'm of the mind that when you intentionally put lives in jeopardy like that through an illegal act, you may as well have committed the eventual murder yourself.

I have to ask:

Putin's attempt at hacking the election makes this a trump thing, how?
Why isn't this an administration policy issue with the previous "leaders" who were in charge of our security, to include CYBER security?
How does hacking polling equipment effect the results of the Electoral College?
Who thinks Putin is stupid enough not to understand our election system?
And finally, who's colon are they pulling this shit out of in an attempt to blatantly, falsely pin it all on trump? (Whoever it is they need an enema stuck into there ear canal.)

But on the other hand, I question if Russian security services' first indication (or confirmation) of an American source in the Russian government is this Washington Post article.

The USG IC, in public testimony, has long said that the Russian order (and authority to conduct operations) came from very "high up" in the Russian government.

1LT Sandy Annala - Absolutely, they should be fully investigated. And I'll tell you right now, when Cheney outed that covert agent, I thought the same thing, too. You do not play with HUMINT or COMSEC. Lives are lost.

I have no doubt that Mike Pompeo will take, and has taken, appropriate actions to protect American sources.

I was referring to the IC Assessment, released 6 January 2017, available at https://www.intelligence.senate.gov/sites/default/files/documents/ICA_2017_01.pdf; and I was also referring to subsequent House and Senate Intelligence Committee testimonies.

The 6 Jan 2017 IC Assessment states:
"We also assess Putin and the Russian Government aspired to help President-elect Trump’s election chances when possible by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him. All three agencies agree with this judgment. CIA and FBI have high confidence in this judgment; NSA has moderate confidence."

From that publicly-released assessment, and a familiarity with the American IC, Russian security services could infer the types and credibility of sources available to the Americans.
