Capt Daniel Goodman great post, I like this aspect of the OSRD.
The research was widely varied, and included projects devoted to new and more accurate bombs, reliable detonators, work on the proximity fuze, guided missiles, radar and early-warning systems, lighter and more accurate hand weapons, more effective medical treatments, more versatile vehicles, and, most secret of all, the "S-1 Section", which later became the Manhattan Project and developed the first atomic weapons.

Capt Daniel Goodman
I follow all too frequently the whole mention of it is frequently hollywoodized in such movies as both recent captain America films which of pure entertainment value tend to cloud the reality of what actually transpired during that period. I'd read of the group for quite some time now I just figured that many on here had not. I only mention the films not because I didn't like them I did as essentially entertaining comic strips however such material frequently I find tends to unintentionally distort and paraphrase history such that the uninitiated often then might not realize that such organizations did actually exist doing serious research that's my only point many thanks.

Thanks for sharing Capt Daniel Goodman. WWII tended to have innocuous names for organizations like Office of Scientific Research and Development which "projects devoted to new and more accurate bombs, reliable detonators, work on the proximity fuze, guided missiles, radar and early-warning systems, lighter and more accurate hand weapons, more effective medical treatments, more versatile vehicles, and, most secret of all, the "S-1 Section", which later became the Manhattan Project and developed the first atomic weapons."

That would have been an interesting Organization to work for during the War.
