What I've learned is that it is okay to feel hungry. You should feel hungry for a while each day, especially if you are trying to lose weight. That feeling is your body dipping into its reserves instead of what has been provided to it.

This has been especially difficult for me. When I stress out, I feel it in my belly and in my hands. I've had to learn to differentiate between stress and hunger because they are very similar.

I am in the process of losing the same 40 pound for the third time. The lesson there has been that in order to lose weight we have to make a lifestyle change. Once the weight is lost, and the goal achieved, it does not mean you can go back to your old lifestyle. I have tested this empirically twice and it is a repeatable, observable truth. The new lifestyle must become permanent if you want to keep the gains you made.
