I LOVED the third and fourth paragraphs. Being a veteran doesn’t make you jacks**t. You did anywhere from a couple years ADT to retiring after you received your 20-year letter. The outside world is not obligated to hand you the next phase of your life on a silver platter. YOU must make it work. YOU. PERIOD.

"Leaving the military is much more like being released from prison..." That one got me. I am currently retired and taking care of the house while my wife's career is off and running. I am trying to educate myself on what I need to do to fit in and not "fail in my military transition". I like hearing about things we shouldn't do that we did in the military because civilians don't really care. It's a, "Thank you for your service, now get to work". I read those articles about why people hire military and then there are those why they don't articles. It's a wake up call. Thank you for sharing this article.

So true! Civilians do not know anything about military besides what they see from Hollywood. They are clueless and don’t care. You will get the occasional thanks for your service. We get brainwashed into being a soldier but not brainwashed back to civilian life. Military is a part of you now so just get busy or go nuts. Or reup. I wish I had reup’d and stayed in til they threw me out of old age....
