Worked for Nextel as an engineer thanks to my 31F training. Sprint takes over and fires half of us. Being low man on the totem pole, I was out with no severance. Years later Sprint fires all their technicians and engineers, turns them all into contract employees through Ericcson and 2/3 salary.

Went to MetroPCS as an engineer and T-Mobile cleaned house after a year. My job title wasn’t needed. They bought out MetroPCS for their spectrum and destroyed their superior network. Everyone I knew lost their jobs.

Now TMOBILE has Sprint?

Thank goodness I got out of telecommunications!

Now TMobile cleaned out Sprint

My sympathies for your career difficulties after military transition. It is sad to learn how corporate companies worldwide continue to lay off employees and cheaply rehire a small few as contractors.

For every door that has closed, new and better opportunities presented themselves. I’m doing quite well for myself. Just thankful I’m not in the ever shrinking telecom world.LTC Eugene Chu

Its just part of the Telecom World Unfortunately. Worked in the same office/shop for 16 years. The company was bought and sold 4 times in the 16 years! I have a draw full of business cards for each company. One Good Company, One bad Company, One good Company and then one final bad Company. Think of all the companies that don't exist anymore. ITT, Nortel, AG, GTE. Contel, Nynex, ATTIS, Moutain Bell, NY Telephone, Centel,Telcom Equiptment Corp, Norstan, Telephone Systems of America, Telspan, Executone, Norelco, Iwatsu, Gold Star, Essy, NEC, OKI,ETC. Just the march of progress in the Telecom Industry. My Military Training and experience gave me the skill to be successful and build a great career!
