You can try either one of these links, you can do a request online and also check the ongoing status. I got my Dads and my records using the Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO

SGT Andrew Anderson Ive been well a bit sort of out of touch with my dads burial and funeral none of which the va even bothered to get me involved in. They knew I was his son. So getting his records and etc I am personally sort of wishing would be easier then some more paper work. I think I tried at one time and I did not have his certificate of passing away.

PO3 Aaron Hassay - If you still don't have a death certificate, all you need to do is contact the town or city where the death was recorded and they will provide you with a copy if you are a next of kin (some jurisdictions charge a nominal fee). As far as his military records, if you do it online there is little to no actual paperwork. You just go on pull up and form and it asks questions, you just check the appropriate box, easy. Good luck.
