Well, when you consider a good chunk of Canada was folks on the wrong side after the American Revolution, it makes sense.

Yes, you had the loyalist types. I also saw an episode in Canadian 1812 TV series called forged and fire when you had a Canadian African free man who fought for the British in the Revolutionary War demanded that a Canadian General give him a commission and he formed his own all black militia which attacked American forces in the Northeast during the War of 1812.

We went to downtown and we saw the Hudson's Bay history on the side of the building. All these Hudson Bays have this posted on their storefronts.

It's interesting with the daughters of the Confederacy were honoring how Canada sheltered Jefferson Davis after the Civil War.

The Hudson Bay store is kind of like Robinson's May or a Canadian store similar to Nordstrom's.

LTC (Join to see) we used to shop at the Hudson Bay store in Sault Ste Marie all the time. Back in the 70s it was the largest store in the area. Tariffs got us a few times when coming back into the US though.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen Canada really rips you off on shoes and clothing. If you buy Nikes or any kind of shoes from Southeast Asia it's 19% Duty same thing with clothing so Canada does get you. You have an exchange rate that's only about 73 cents Canadian to the American dollar and then you're hit with 19% Duty and then a 5% general sales tax and if you happen to live in non- oil producing provinces, you could have a provincial sales tax of 9.75% in Quebec and 5 to 7% in other broke Canadian provinces so it really adds up.

Oil and energy make Alberta exempt from a provincial sales tax and we support the provinces that charge Top Dollar on provincial sales taxes.

That should tell you something about how oil and energy is more important to budgets of governments and they want to admit.
