SSgt Robert Marx If there is wrongdoing action needs to be taken. There is no place for this kind of behavior in the military. Shouting and yelling at a recruit, is expected, but not physical abuse.

Exactly. You have nailed the proverbial nail on its head. I have nothing but respect for the drill instructors who trained me about 25 years ago. Paris Island also has many noxious insects that bite. I have always had a reaction at the site of bite or sting. Fire ants really hurt! All of the insect stings collectively hurt much but at the end I earned the title of Marine. It hurts to think new recruits might have been hazed.

Some things that I learned from my Drill Sgt and as a Drill Sgt, I hope and prayed that would stick to me and recruits forever! That's how to act under extreme pressure!
