I have long anticipated that moment of clarity when policy makers awaken to the fact that the world is a far different place than the one that existed when PBS was created. We now have narrow casting with narrowcasters providing a rich array of entertainment that didn't exist when PBS was created and there were only three major broadcasting networks and a handful of independent local broadcasters. Virtually all forms of entertainment featured on PBS are now offered by a variety of sources. There is one special show that PBS hosts that would be sorely missed: Sesame Street. However, can you imagine the bidding war that would occur if PBS were shut down? Oh, and for those on the Left who fear losing their propaganda engine, you still have the three major broadcast networks in your arsenal.

MSgt Kurt Stover - If you've been paying attention you'll have noticed that there have been several attempts by the Left to duplicate the success of conservative talk radio, and all have been commercial failures. Interesting, isn't it? Only PBS continues to air Leftist programming (yes, it even insinuates itself into Sesame Street) and, yes, it attracts a lot of donations. If people want it, let them pay for it voluntarily, not put guns of tax collectors to our heads. However, given the commercial failures of Leftist entertainment without government funding, I don't think they'll give up their place at the government trough anytime soon

I agree with all of these comments. Used to listen to it. Then it turned into a proposal DA machine. Tried listening to Election night coverage. When it became clear that President Trump had won that there was a good possibility Hillary was still going to win.

The Nation is 20 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT. Time to start cutting programs that can be funded by alternate means. If broadcast market forces determine that PBS serves a particular demographic - then those forces will find the advertising dollars and donations to keep PBS on the air. Conversely, if those same forces determine that the time for PBS has passed, then let Liberals donate to their hearts content to keep PBS on the air

I am glad that President Donald Trump is working to fulfill as many campaign promises as he can Maj Marty Hogan. I for one applaud his efforts to reduce the size and footprint of government by reducing regulations, shrinking staff requirements, etc.
the first step is frequently the most difficult especially with naysayers like PBS booing from the sidelines.

I am not against the public arts etc- but we do have to start somewhere. Someone is always going to be opposed.
