Why not so ourselves a favor and ask WHY we are they looking so hard at our old stock, and not investing into our "new" aircraft? F-35 program has been around forever, and has been overrun with cost, and now nations that were "in", are now "out". I'd take the F14 over this POS any day.

The F-35 Can't Beat The Plane It's Replacing In A Dogfight: Report
We’ve heard of significant shortcomings before with the fighter jet that’s supposed to be America’s future, but this is just as bad as it gets. The F-35 performed so dismally in a dogfight, that the test pilot remarked that the it had pretty much no place fighting other aircraft within visual range.

Maybe if we can convince enough allies to buy that pig of an aircraft, the F-35, the price will come down some.
As for selling our older aircraft, I am all for that. The alternative if for them to sit in the boneyard. Might as well get some return on investment, and help build a little better capability among our friends. The same could be said of our surplus Navy vessels rusting in mothballs.
