The A10 was originally designed to fight over the high-intensity Armor / Mech Infantry battlefield. Why do people now claim it is suitable for only "permissive environments"?
CAS has to be performed at relatively slow airspeeds at low elevations so the superior speed of the F35 is irrelevant in the CAS role. A10s had a Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) role with ARM missiles and then once the wings mounts were empty using the 30mm cannon against tanks.
Better to have many lower cost A10s in CAS with a few very high cost F35s in Air Superiority roles fending off enemy fighters.

It's funny the F-35 can be shot down by AK-47 ground fire 12.7 millimeter well I believe V8 and can withstand up to a 23 millimeter anti-aircraft gun system will have a hard time shooting it down so just one round from the zsu 23-4 will take out the F-35

Using voice text the V8 I'm referring to is there a - 10 warthog. I don't know what people have been smoking up there on NBC the warthog is not a this is not a Vietnam era Oscar Victor 10 Bronco it can take a 23 millimeter hit I know the F-35 does not have two redundant hydraulic systems and one manual system and the fuel was wrapped around the engine on the F-35 when it's not on the A10 so I don't know what they're saying if there's a VA 10 is only considered in a permissive environment I just think it's greedy contractors wanting the money for the F-35 which is a black hole like in the movie Interstellar
