Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on June 21, 1916 the U.S. military expedition against Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa brought the neutral United States closer to war itself, when Mexican government troops attack U.S. Brigadier General John J. Pershing’s force at Carrizal, Mexico.
The Monroe Doctrine which had been established the century before was being enforced by "Black Jack" John J. Pershing.
Pancho Vila brought this war on himself by executing civilians such as when he ordered or allowed to happen:
1. in January 2016, 16 U.S. citizens at Santa Isabel were executed in northern Mexico.
2. on March 9, 1916 he ordered a raid on the border town of Columbus, New Mexico, in which 17 Americans were killed and the center of town was burned.
Thankfully Black Jack" John J. Pershing distinguished himself in the Great War and in 1923 Pancho Villa was assassinated at his ranch in Parral by an unknown assailant.
