So this is an interesting TED talk by the Chief of Defense for the Netherlands.
Apparently they have many of the same issues that have when it comes to supporting their troops.
I noticed how he reached over the communication barriers to put things in a frame of mind that civilians, who are even less pro military than your average US citizen, can understand.

Until after the Cold War ended, the Netherlands had mandatory 1 Year conscription of all males at the age of 18. Sometime in the early 1990s this was ended and they moved to an all volunteer force. I have met a few veterans and active duty service members and found them to be as well trained and well disciplined as our own service members. We as Americans can stand proudly next to our Dutch counterparts and know we can and will defend each other.
