SP5 Mark Kuzinski What I take away is they sent a military guy and a politician. I am sure they viewed it in entirely different contexts. Probably looked like separate worlds let alone points of view.

I think JFK's response demonstrated how naive he was at times in foreign affairs SP5 Mark Kuzinski. The idea that two government officials who were not experts on Southeast Asia would be able to get a good picture in "a whirlwind four-day visit" is bizarre. Thew expectation that Maj. Gen. Victor Krulak, USMC, Special Assistant for Counterinsurgency and Special Activities to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Joseph Mendenhall of the State Department would arrive at the same conclusion is ludicrous since one had a military-paradigm focus and the other had a diplomatic-paradigm focus.
