What are your thoughts on Obama's Farewell speech? Personally, I always found him to be a great speaker and is able to get his message across in a manner that makes people pay attention. While I am not a democrat, I found the speech to be one of his best. His call to everyone to be a solution rather than a problem. To take action rather than just complain. Or the best one in the speech, the call to actually sit down and talk with that faceless stranger from Facebook about the things you don't agree about rather than just have some back and forth on the internet. I think this speech will go down as one of the top 5 Obama gave in his 8 years as the POTUS.

I read that article this morning and couldn’t help but think this poor man’s condescending and patronizing attitude has left this country in such a sad state. I’ve gotten so tired of hearing “that’s not who we are,” and “pay your fair share” that I would almost break out in hives. The President and his wife have absolutely no clue as to the challenges and struggles everyday people, of all stripes, face in their lives. Neither Obama or his wife have any idea of “who we are” and how much many of us have already paid. As to the National Review article the last paragraph sums it up perfectly:

And for a man who rose to national attention on the basis of his oratory, he has said relatively little that is memorable. That is because he has relatively little to say, being a man who brought no new ideas or insights to the office, only a pointlessly grandiose sense of his own specialness. Yes, he reads a teleprompter with the best of them. George Bush also excelled. But don't let either of them go off script. Like actors, they need a good writer behind the scenes. Sorry if I don't bow at his oratory skills as you do but I grew up listening to really great speakers, people who wrote their own material and could speak extemporaneously: John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Everett Dirkson, and a host of others you've probably never heard of. I miss them all and reminded how much I miss them when I hear speakers like President Obama

Fortunately, I was able to read the message, scanning over the fluff and BS to go to the meat of it, and what I found there is precisely what I expected. President Obama is positioning himself as an elder statesman, offering to lead the loyal opposition in the search for compromise. This from a man who never met a compromise that he would step all over. And I grow weary of his repeated references to "democracy". We are not a democracy.

Fortunately, you can look back at my era and enjoy the many splendors of it as well as learn lessons from its mistakes, then make yours even better. He addressed issues that affected both sides and encouraged that we all face problems together. Let's hope it does indeed bring people together. I've said before in previous posts that I didn't vote or support Trump, but don't wish that he fails as a president either.
