We have to ask ourselves, is there a mission-oriented reason that transgender people should be recruited and serve in the US Military?

My answer is, no. I believe there are an adequate number of people qualified to serve who are not transgender to allow the Services to fill the needed number of new enlisted, WO, and Officer positions without transgender individuals.

Yes, this is discrimination. It is occasionally necessary to discriminate against some people for the good of the service and to accomplish the mission. Currently serving transgender personnel should be offered a choice to leave under honorable conditions in a short time (90 days). If they have served honorably, they should be entitled to VA benefits.

Neither the DoD or VA should be asked to pay for the extensive psychological and physical medical costs of sex reassignment.

I'm not going to second guess the President on this issue though if it were up to me, I would have done it a little differently. IMV, it is perfectly ok for transgenders to serve, provided they have completed their gender reassignment, including surgery, prior to entering the service. I am opposed to military members going through gender reassignment while in the service. It is not fair to the taxpayer nor is it conducive to military readiness.

That is a reasonable compromise, I completed my own transition as a member of the IRR and was called to active duty for Desert Storm. I continued to serve for 5 more years in the IRR, and performed yearly active-duty training with the Newark district Recruiting Command and the 78th Training Division. My active and Reserve service totaled 21 years.

I completely agree with that statement. I have no problem with it....but not on my tax dollars.

What about maintenance hormones and the problems associated?? Since biology dictates, even though the reassignment surgery may be completed, the hormonal differences surely are problematic.
