As somebody who has been suicidal, I recognize the influence of friends and family and most importantly the love of God as being instrumental in reducing suicide Stephanie Jones
I recognize that you are trying to encourage legislation.
Over my 60 years I have seen lots of legislation passed which intended on its face to do good but in actuality increased bureaucracy and did little to improve the situation - from the war of poverty in LBJs great society to more recent efforts very little from the federal government actually improves the lives of people.
Pledges can be like New Years resolutions. Many start out with good intentions.
Many of us are already committed to caring for veterans and others who are suicidal. Heart change is required for action to take place.
Generally it is local government and friends and family who help solve problems at the local level.
