That depends on where one is from. My ancestors have lived in the South since the 1600s when brought from England as indentured servants. They have shed blood in every conflict since their arrival. Seven generations ago that grandfather served in The Revolutionary War. Following the war they moved west ending up in Northwest Arkansas circa 1810. Fast forward to 1862 and the Union Army invaded Northwest Arkansas. It was more like barbarians than a disciplined army. They stole anything of value, live stock, all food they had, murdering, raping women, burning entire towns. Anarchy reigned until 1877 when the "occupation" ended. As a young kid I asked my great grandmother about it since she was a young child during the time. She died hating Yankees. The victor writes the history. Destruction of our monuments and renaming places is like poking a festering sore. I have roughly 80 books written from the Southern viewpoint with many by Senior staff officers of the Confederate States of America.
