Prince Eugene of Savoy - Wikipedia

As a young officer, Prince Eugene was part of the force that cross Kahlenburg Mountain with the Polish Cavalry to break the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683. In 1697, as a commander, he gave the Ottoman Turks a devastating defeat at Zenta, and was recognized as one the the greatest commanders of his time. Ten years later he was the partner of the Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill, with whom he won the battles of Blenheim, Oudenarde, and Malplaquet against the forces of the Sun King, Louis XIV. He was known for always working to keep his forces supplied so they arrived to battle well fed, well supplied, and if possible, well rested. Because his efforts for the Holy Roman Empire against the Turks and the French saved so many countries from domination, he has the rare distinction of having warships named for him by five different countries- Austro-Hungary, Britain, Germany, Italy, and Yugoslavia.
