This is a very tragic outcome, sadly. I find this repeatedly in my clinical research w/ combat vets dating back to Korea. They now feel extremely vulnerable and terrified of any intimacy. Generally, we men are afraid of psychosocial intimacy anyway.
In Vietnam, we killed many civilians inc. babies, children, women and the aged. I've only encountered 1 vet who enjoyed killing. And the bonds formed within a combat squad are ever lasting! So when one member is wounded or killed, all feel this way as well!
My research continues to break my heart as a former AF medic and human.
