Is the campus size at Lowe's soldier with PTSD and drinking and substance abuse problems need to go to Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous since substance abuse and alcohol abuse will lead to domestic violence and often to suicide. Seems like a lot of people don't want to discuss drinking because it's too much money being made in the alcohol industry. But my sister committed suicide and she drank a lot

SGT David Ortiz-González - I forgot to add that my sister has some form of PTSD because she felt traumatized and guilty for the abortion she had because later should have a hysterectomy and she never had kids and it really messed her up and I think having a by 8 little dogs at home and drinking all the time was her way of coping.

Yet ppl immediately associate PTSD with us instead of focusing and helping others that suffer from it as well.

SGT David Ortiz-González - so true and people could get it from a severe car accident from those people or that terrorist attack in France or turkey or Mexico people survive people blowing away their heads cut off or bleeding like a pig and they don't realize that it's not just Soldiers by the people who witnessed 9/11 who are there as well

I have soldiers heart. The DSM and the yuppies, hippies, and draft dodgers who wrote can throw their labels at someone else. I don't buy into the diagnosis. Why you ask? Well if you asked the car accident person if they would wreck again they would say no, or the sexual assault or domestic violence (PTSD). If you asked if I'd go to combat again I'd say f*ck yea.

Just as you mentioned other traumas usually are fearful of re-experiencing the incident yet soldiers don't. We are soldiers so that's what we are trained to do and love. Thanks for commenting.

The problem with most people not directly affected by PTSD do not truly understand it. When you break it down it's pretty easy to describe ... maybe not completely understanding but have a better picture of it. In short, Post being the 'time prior' to an event. Next we have, Traumatic being the primary cause of the problem. Stress is the factor in which the traumatic event was lived or witnessed. Disorder is use to describe the lasting effect. What is most important to know is that the traumatic event is not just limited to Soldiers ... in fact our service members make up only a small percentage of those effected. Car accidents, rape, murder, death (in other aspect), anything that has a traumatic affect on someone. The stress portion is that of how big the impact or frequently of the memory.

Soldier's and drinking have been intertwined like the glaze and the doughnut. It's an easy way to 'self medicate' to coup with their demons.

That is the main reason we need to continue to create awareness. If they understand what it really we can gradually erase that stigma.

Alcohol plays a key role in military suicide and we definitely have to bring attention to that as well.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.
