The Federalist Papers are NOT controlling documents or even law. They are irrelevant.

When interpreting the language of older documents, like the Constitution and the Bill of Rights don't you think that periodicals and writings from the times help understand the meanings of the words at that time?

LTC (Join to see) - They help understand the conditions, but often only confuse the final result.
The Constitution created our system of government, and it created the amendment process to change the document itself, and within the Supreme Court it created the mechanism to interpret the constitution and how it applies to future issues.
So called "Constitutional Sheriffs" and fringe groups like the "Oathkeepers" latch onto whatever theories they can find to argue that the federal government cannot do this or that, but to me they are just that, fringe groups, what we used to call the crazy tent, and those arguments do not hold any water with me.

SFC George Smith The Oathkeepers have been pushing Constitutional Law for quite awhile now. There are some county Sheriffs that are really behind it.

The Federalist Papers don't prove anything, or they'd be the law of the land. But gosh darn it they're gonna take your guns away!!

SSG Drew Cook I would agree that in and of themselves the Federalist Papers don't prove anything, but wouldn't you agree that they (the Federalist Papers) do provide some clarity to the thoughts behind both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
