Would you like to go again and see it without battle gear? Do you think it would be healing or bring forgotten memories flooding back? I hear it's beautiful when it's not wartime.

My brother went back 5-8 years ago. He didn’t say much after he got back. I didn’t serve in Vietnam. Came close; unit was scheduled to rotate in early 1973, but Nixon turned the Air Force lose in December 1972. They bombed the North around the clock. When the North agreed to come to the table, we were stood down, then our rotation was canceled. Right now, it’s not on my “must see” list.

MAJ Kim Patterson - I witnessed beauty in Vietnam during my tour, startlingly bright green terraced rice paddies, vast triple canopy jungles, geometric old French rubber plantations, all viewed from the Huey’s that were dropping us in ,that’s when the beauty stopped and everything became very ugly.

I read a story on here Kim of a young bride who lost her helicopter pilot in Vietnam. She married again and as it turned out, also a chopper pilot. They went to Vietnam together and met the man who killed her husband. Both her and her current husband said it was extremely healing. I’m thinking I posted the story but don’t know how to find it.

I wish these heroes luck on a return trip to Vietnam, over the years I’ve had numerous opportunities to revisit that terrible place, for me it is not the place where I would feel comfortable or welcoming, for that I go to the Wall in Washington DC,Welcome Home Brothers
